What is blind tasting? Sommeliers studying for their certification exams refine their wine tasting skills by guessing concealed wines. You don’t need to be a sommelier to blind taste—it’s also a fun weekend activity to do with friends & family! Improve your palate and learn more about what you like (and don’t like) in wine.
Steps for a successful tasting:
1) Put the whites (blue tissue paper) in the refrigerator about 1 hour before the tasting. Uncork the wine but don’t unwrap the tissue paper!
2) Pour the first wine into your glass and assess it. Gather your thoughts on the color, aromas, flavors, and style.
3) Make a guess on grape, country, region, and vintage. Discuss your qualitative thoughts and guesses with your friends or family.
4) Reveal the wine and discuss the correct answer with your group. Repeat with the other wines and have fun!
